Rolling Boulder (poem)

Boulder.... the old
Mining town
Became
The apartheid.... of youth
Eternally young
A pale-faced apartheid
Of milk and honey
On high plains
A college town
Of splendid
Cirriculums
Out to save
A third world
The whales
The ignorant
The planet
The future
Control freaks
Lick ice cream
Prepare.... to conquer
The globe
From Pearl Street.... lined
With jugglers.... kazoos
Minstrels.... balladeers
Aparthied
Of nature's.... fertile beauty
Gentle chinooks
Rocky
Mountain air
Nights.... that are young

The evicted.... Arapaho
Forgotten.... natives
Chief Niwot
Curse of beauty
A million buffalo
Steaming nostrils
In the snow
Sent murdered
To another universe
Replaced by.... apartheid
Of fine cars
Bourgeois.... consumerism
Tony shops....
Plagiaristic.... names
Imitate Europe
As if ashamed.... to be
American
Dishwashers cram
Four to a floor
Scraping.... high rent

Timeless memory
Of Boulder Beats
Bonnie Bombay.... Gin
Ginzy... blocking
Nuclear bombs
Fabulous caravans of
Decadent frazzled unshaven
Hippies crossing.... America
A world.... forever young
A Mork and Mindy world
Fine.... white bottoms
Riding bicycles
Crazy youth
Streakers
Naked.... swimming holes
Guru babies
Diggers.... veggies
Loaves and dishes
Mo Jesus
Celestially seasoned
Tea company secretaries
Sitting outside
Knees high
Cotton dresses.... hiked
Flashing naughty
Wanton.... luxurious
Flesh.... bare
Revealing
Herbal youth....and beauty

Pilgrims.... climbers
Youth naked.... ethereal
Maxfield Parrish
Dream.... Canyon
Specs of gold.... that sparkle
Below crystal pools
By torrent waters
In bright June sun
Heavenly blue.... skies
Rolling boulder

Broadway
Little Kitchen
Carnival Cafe
Buddhists....
Babies drinking
Bare breasts
A different Bonnie
Played piano.... sang Joni
Tim's flowing robes
Miso, rice.... wok fries
Wind.... who baked bread
Tofu town
Old wooden barrels
The Grainary
Wooden floors
Hotel Colorado
STP drunks
The horror
The Shining
Before apartheid became
A shopping hamlet

Days of the great
Kerouac boom.... youth
Migration.... became
All the more pale
Gingerbread town
Painted on.... tea boxes
Leaving behind
A time gone
The young version of....
Neil Young singing
"You can't be twenty.... on Sugar Mountain"
Where Dee.... cut stacks
Of hashish.... later died
The heroin of pushers
And Little Mary.... moved on
Forever young
